Several Arrested After Receiving Dozens of 911 Calls Reporting Reckless Motorcyclists

Bay Shore, NY - October 27, 2013 - Suffolk Police today arrested seven motorcyclists after dozens of 911 callers reported 20 to 50 individuals driving recklessly on motorcycles and ATV’s this afternoon.

Multiple 911 callers reported that the operators of several motorcycles, dirt bikes and ATV’s were driving recklessly on Main Street in Bay Shore, on westbound Sunrise Highway in West Islip, and on Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, among other locations, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.  First Precinct and Third Precinct officers responded and issued numerous field appearance tickets and summonses for various vehicle and traffic law violations.  

The following arrests were made as a result of the 911 calls:  

Samuel Morales, 19, of Brooklyn, who was operating a 2003 Ducati motorcycle, was arrested for Driving Without a Motorcycle License, Reckless Driving and Resisting Arrest.  He was observed passing motor vehicles on the right shoulder and going through a red light on Pine Aire Drive in Bay Shore.  After falling off his motorcycle, Morales attempted to flee and resisted arrest.  

Jason Coleman, 29, of Yonkers, was arrested on Pine Aire Drive in Brentwood and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Coleman made an illegal U-turn in front of a 2004 Toyota sedan that struck Coleman’s 2009 Yamaha motorcycle.  Coleman fled the scene of the crash without exchanging information with the other driver.  The adult male driver of the Toyota was not injured.  

Tikret Cekic, 23, of Brooklyn, was charged with Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer after he drove through a red light on Pine Aire Drive in Bay Shore at a high rate of speed in an attempt to flee from officers.

Joel Hernandez, 19, of Brentwood, was charged with Criminal Mischief 4 th degree and Reckless Driving after he backed into a police vehicle on Pine Aire Drive in Bay Shore.  The officers in the vehicle were not injured.  

Tomas Palacios, 35, of Bay Shore, was charged Driving Under the Influence after he operated an ATV on Pine Aire Drive and Washington Avenue in Bay Shore while under the influence of alcohol.

Matthew Valentino, 25, of East Quogue, was charged with Reckless Driving after he was observed driving recklessly on Udall Road in Baywood at a high rate of speed and swerving in and out of on-coming traffic causing other vehicles to swerve off the roadway to avoid him.

A passenger on one of the motorcycles was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree after a police officer directed her to stop and she attempted to flee.

First Precinct and Third Precinct officers also arrested more than 30 individuals and issued field appearance tickets for Trespassing after they gathered on their bikes behind the Suffolk County Department of Social Services building located at 2 South 2nd Street in Bay Shore.  

Four motorcycles and one ATV were impounded.
