New York, NY - October 26, 2015 - Animal rights activist Jean Shafiroff, along with the SPCA and Rescue Dogs Rock, will be hosting the first New York Mets World Series, "Puppy Parade" ever held in Manhattan featuring rescue and shelter dogs wearing New York Mets pet uniforms, Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM, 79 Chambers St. (near Broadway) in Manhattan. As the Mets prepare to open the World Series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night, a full lineup of Amazin’ animals will trot along city sidewalks with pride, hoping to find a new home while rooting for their hometown Mets. The parade serves to promote pet adoption among New York sports fans and animal lovers on the eve of the Mets first World Series appearance in 15 years.

Rescue Dogs Rock, a non-profit pet rescue organization and Suffolk County SPCA are co-sponsoring the event.  Both groups rescue puppies and dogs from high kill shelters, owner surrenders, puppy mills and medically-neglected and suffering dogs and give them the proper medical care they need.

According to the ASPCA, roughly 7.6 million "companion" animals enter shelters across the U.S. each year, 3.9 million of which are dogs. Of the total number of dogs, 35%, or 1.4 million, are adopted annually; and 31%, or 1.2 million, are euthanized.
