Valley Stream, NY - October 26, 2017 - Fifth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Rosedale, Queen’s man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:25 pm in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, after observing a 1998 Lexus GS400 being operated on Merrick Road near the intersection of Ormonde Boulevard without its lights on, a Fifth Precinct officer attempted to stop the car that initially refused to pull over. After several blocks the operator then stopped the Lexus on 135th Avenue at the intersection of 246th Street, Rosedale.
A subsequent investigation ensued and it was determined that the Lexus was reported stolen on 10/16/2017 from the 106 Precinct in New York City. After attempting to place the operator, Matthew Felix, 17, of Rosedale into custody, he ran from officers through multiple yards in the area and initially evaded police.
A K-9 officer and his dog Doyle responded to the scene and Felix, who was secreting himself, was eventually located by the dog in a rear yard on 246th Street. He was then placed into custody.
During the initial foot pursuit, one of the officers, who ran after Felix, fell to the ground, sustained injuries to his knee and hand and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Felix is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest and three Vehicle & Traffic Law Violations. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 10/26/2017.
