SCPD: Man Arrested After Threatening Officer with Pipe, Ordering Dog to Attack
Mastic Beach, NY - October 25, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man who threatened a police officer with a pipe in Mastic Beach on Wednesday, October 24,.
Anthony Johnson was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe westbound on Wavecrest Drive when a Seventh Precinct officer attempted to make a traffic stop at approximately 10:40 a.m. Johnson refused to stop and the officer followed the vehicle to a residence on Woodland Drive. Johnson exited the vehicle and refused to comply with the officers directions.
Johnson threatened the officer with a metal pipe before releasing a pit bull mix dog from the rear yard of the home. The dog charged at the officer and the officer fired a single shot, injuring the dog.
Johnson, 58, of Mastic Beach, was arrested and charged with Menacing 2nd Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Johnson’s driver’s license had been suspended 35 times.
Johnson will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 25.
