Westbury, NY - October 24, 2018 - Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) was proud to honor eight local women with his 6th Annual 2018 Women of Distinction Award on Saturday, October 6 at the Westbury Memorial Public Library. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County preformed the Presentation of Colors ceremony and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Nicole Dalto, Malverne, sang the National Anthem at the opening of the ceremony and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to close. The event was dedicated in memory of Floral Park resident Frances Tomecki, whose daughter, Mary-Grace Tomecki, a former Flora Park village trustee, was the keynote speaker for the event. Ra also named Emily Kille, a Mineola Girl Scout from Troop 1806, as this year’s Emerging Leader.

“It is such a privilege to honor so many fantastic women for the hard-work they do every day for our community,” said Ra. “Every year I encourage the community to nominate local women for this award and every year I am amazed by the lengths women in our district go to better our neighborhoods. These women are an inspiration to us all and represent our communities in the best of light. I look forward to seeing and meeting more Women of Distinction for many years to come.”

Honorees include Marlene Botta, Franklin Square; Ann Forster, Garden City South; Theresa Leno, West Hempstead; Mary Maguire, Garden City; Tara McCarton, Garden City; Marianne Manning Russo, Glen Head; Susan Sohmer, Mineola and Karen Signoracci Suero, Mineola.
