Rockville Centre, NY - October 24, 2017 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident involving a pedestrian on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 12:03 pm in Rockville Centre.
According to detectives, a female, 71 years of age, while attempting to cross South Park Avenue east to west at Lincoln Avenue, was struck by a 2008 Freightliner panel truck driven by a 26 year old male.
The truck was making a left hand turn from eastbound Lincoln Avenue, to travel northbound on South Park Avenue. As a result of the collision, the female victim suffered serious head injuries, was transported to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased by a staff physician.
The driver remained at scene. The vehicle was brake and safety tested. Identification of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
The investigation is ongoing.
