Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Oakdale last night.

Oakdale, NY - October 24th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Oakdale last night.

John O’Brien, 65, was crossing Montauk Highway in front of the Lighthouse Commons Shopping Center, west of Berard Boulevard in Oakdale, when he was struck by a 2002 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway.

O’Brien, of Oakdale, was transported via Community Ambulance of Sayville to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Elantra, Jonathan Singh, 19, of Port Jefferson Station, was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
