Blue Point Crossing Guard Arrested for DWI After Leaving Post

Blue Point, NY - October 23rd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a school crossing guard for driving while intoxicated after she finished her morning shift in Blue Point.

Fifth Precinct police officers responded to the parking lot of Waldbaums, located at 440 South Sunrise Service Road in Patchogue, after a 911 caller reported a possible drunk driver. Police officers located Joanne Griffiths in the store’s parking lot and observed she was under the influence of alcohol.

Griffiths, who had just completed her assignment as a crossing guard at Montauk Highway and Bell Avenue in Blue Point, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Griffiths, 58, of 59 Ocean Ave., Blue Point, will be arraigned on October 24 at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
