Theodore Roosevelt Celebrates 160th Birthday at Sagamore Hill

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  22. October 2018

Cove Neck, NY - October 22, 2018 - Long Island residents are invited to Sagamore Hill on Saturday, October 27, 2018 to celebrate the 160th Birthday of Theodore Roosevelt with schedule of activities including a performance by the Long Island Vegetable Orchestra at 2:00PM. Activities will kick-off with our Volunteer Naturalist on a moderate walk around the grounds of Sagamore Hill to view the fall colors. There will also be a children's craft available at conclusion of the hike. Meet behind the Visitor Center at 11:00AM, and be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

Following the nature walk, join a park ranger at 1:00PM for an interactive music program including historic recordings and a live performance of period music. Much of American music published between 1898 and 1920 reflect the influence of the Roosevelts' popularity among the public, but their personal interests reflect the influence of sentimentality and a desire to develop new, uniquely American traditions in their music.

Sagamore Hill is excited to host the Long Island Vegetable Orchestra in a performance on the porch of Theodore Roosevelt's home using homemade instruments crafted from the garden including carrot pan pipes, squash trombones, and pumpkin drums. This 2:00PM performance will include an interactive display which will be available for all ages from 12:00PM-3:00PM.
