19-Year-Old Arrested in Connection to Several Robberies Related in Private Sale of Cell Phones

Lakeview, NY - October 19, 2016 - The Fifth Squad reports the details of an arrest for Robbery that occurred on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11:40 am in Lakeview.

According to detectives, a 47 year old male victim was in front of 1260 Howard Street, to purchase an I-phone 6 from a person he met on a phone application called “CLOSE5”.  The person used a screen name of “Kayla”.  A male arrived to the meeting place and demanded payment before he would hand over the cell phone.  The victim refused and the subject finally handed over the phone.  The victim then inserted a SIM card, discovered the phone was locked and refused to purchase the item.

When the victim tried to get back into his vehicle, the subject held the driver’s side door, put his hand on his waistband simulating a gun and threatened to shoot the victim.  The victim in fear for his life was able to free the door and drive off safely. 

Fifth Precinct officers conducted an investigation and were able to place under arrest defendant Jovon Robinson, 19, of Bronx, on the corner of Howard Street and Henry Street at 1:05 pm without incident.  A search incidental to arrest recovered a black electronic stun gun in the defendant’s pant pocket.

After further investigation, detectives discovered that the defendant was also responsible for two (2) additional robberies that occurred on October 13, 2016. Proceeds were $300.00 and October 14, 2016. Proceeds were a cell phone.

Defendant Robinson is being charged with Attempted Robbery, Robbery 1st Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, Grand Larceny 4th Degree and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.  He will be arraigned on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.
