Zombie Home Demolished in Farmingville

Written by Lon Cohen  |  19. October 2021

Another zombie home has been removed by the Town of Brookhaven, this one at 27 Radburn Drive in Farmingville. According to the Town , the house had been vacant for many years and became the source of many resident complaints and building code violations.

The home was demolished by the Town in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the Town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. The County reimburses the Town and then they collect the money from the property owner.

“Like so many zombie houses, this one was in a nice neighborhood where people take care of their homes and property,” said Brookhaven Town Councilman Kevin LaValle. “A house like this one lowers the property values of nearby homes and has a detrimental impact on everyone in the neighborhood.”
