Authorities Investigating Bias Assault of Woman in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - October 17, 2018 - The Third Squad is investigating a Bias Crime Assault that occurred on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11:58 p.m. in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, a female victim, 53, was talking on her cellphone while standing on the sidewalk of West Columbia Street where she observed a male yelling at a female. The victim asked the male subject to lower his voice so she could talk to her friend on the phone. The subject approached the victim and repeatedly yelled at her using racial slurs. He then punched the victim in the face causing her to bleed from her mouth. The victim suffered a laceration to her face and a broken tooth. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
 
The subject is described as a male Hispanic in his middle 20’s to middle 30’s, 5’ 8’’ tall, medium build, medium complexion with dark colored hair. He was wearing a short sleeve tan shirt with blue jeans. 
 
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
