Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman today congratulated Seaford resident Ryan Clifford for setting a new world record on a run that spanned from Buffalo to Brooklyn in just over eight days.
Clifford, a graduate of MacArthur High School, added his 568-mile, record-setting trek of the Empire State Trail to numerous other race and course records that he has set across the country. Running through hazardous conditions ranging from extreme heat to a nor’easter that soaked the region over Columbus Day weekend, his achievement embodies the grit and determination that all Nassau County residents embrace.
At a press conference marking the milestone, Clifford thanked his coaches and loved ones for supporting him during the run.
“I want to definitely thank my family and friends for supporting me on this big journey. A lot goes into it that a lot of people don’t understand or realize,” Clifford said. “I fought through a lot of different tough conditions, but it was really cool to be able to do it and set the fastest known time that, of course, is being recognized here by the County.”
To commemorate this record-breaking achievement, County Executive Blakeman presented a special citation to Mr. Clifford and declared today to be “Ryan Clifford Day” across all of Nassau County.
“We have a lot of people who are very accomplished who are Nassau County residents, and we like to make sure everyone knows of their accomplishments,” stated County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
