Long Islander Becomes "Jersey Girl" in What Exit?, A Web Series
Wantagh, NY - October 19, 2015 - Jessica Carollo, a native of Wantagh, NY stars as Tina, an Italian Jersey Girl in crisis in What Exit? a web series about life in New Jersey.
What Exit? introduces two Jersey Girls and longtime friends Tina and Lexi. Tina is a true Italian Jersey Girl with big dreams of a fantasy wedding. Unfortunately Tina’s fiancée breaks up with her on New Year’s Eve. Tina is blindsided, suddenly single and clueless. Lexi, her longtime friend, escaped to New York City, where she relishes her independence. It doesn’t last long. Lexi becomes a victim of corporate downsizing, and forced to move home with her parents to work at her family’s Greek diner. The series follows both friends on their quest for love, a fulfilling career, plus independence from meddling ethnic family members.
Jessica Carollo (Tina) brings great comedic timing to the series, as a distraught “Italian Princess.” Her desire to act started young at age five, when she visited the sets of then New York-based soap operas, where her mother worked as a hair stylist. She remembers fondly: “As I watched the actors standing around on set, I remember thinking, ‘I wanna go play’ so I told my mom I was going to go over to play with the actors and my mom then said, ‘You have to go school for that.’ And I said, ‘There's a school for that?!’ It got me hooked.”
Jessica started out at area community theatres: The Stage in Merrick, and the Smithtown Performing Arts center. After attending General Douglas McCarthur High School, and Nassau Community College, she graduated from Circle in the Square Theatre School in Manhattan. Recently, she developed and starred in her own web series pilot Obstructed View, about a wannabe Broadway star who works as a theater usher.
What Exit? is an independently produced comedy web series created by New Jersey native Sophia Eptamenitis. Inspired by incidents in her own life mixed with that of her friends, What Exit? is a “down to earth” take on the life of twentysomethings still living at home in the suburbs.
What Exit? was shot on location in northern New Jersey and New York City with a local cast and crew. Season 2 episodes produced in 2015 also star: Alicia Giangrisostomi as Lexi (recast), Matthew Knowland as Evan, and Lauren Klemp as Claudia.
