West Islip, NY - October 14, 2016 - St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is proud to announce that two seniors, Sachin Devasahayam and Dominick Rich have been named semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Only 16,000 of the nation’s high school students, less than one percent of the total, make it to this stage. They now have the opportunity to qualify for Merit Scholarship awards.

These two outstanding students are hopeful that they will be named finalists in the upcoming months. It is estimated that fifteen thousand of the sixteen thousand semi-finalists will advance to the finals. From there, 7.500 students will be selected as scholarship recipients.

The St. John’s community is excited and proud of Sachin and Dominick’s accomplishment. Principal Nan Doherty stated, “We are so very thrilled to celebrate both Dominick and Sachin as National Merit Semi-Finalists this year. They are terrific students and fine young gentlemen who are stellar students and representatives of St. John the Baptist DHS and, most especially of their respective families.”
