UPDATE: Police Searching for Boater, Two Other Men Rescued from Overturned Boat in Fire Island Inlet

Update - October 19, 2016 - Roberto Vazquez, 50, of West Babylon, has been identified as the man whose body was found approximately 1 mile offshore of Fire Island Inlet on October 17. Vazquez went missing after a boat he was on overturned in the inlet on October 11.

Fire Island, NY - October 11, 2016 - Suffolk County Police are searching for a missing man after a boat overturned in the Fire Island Inlet this evening.  Two other men have been rescued.

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers responded to a call for a capsized vessel at the Fire Island Inlet near Buoy 3 at approximately 5:55 p.m.  The officers assisted U.S. Coast Guard units and the New York Police Department Special Operations Division who responded with an aviation unit and deployed divers.

The search is continuing for 50-year old Babylon man who was on the 21-foot fishing boat that overturned.  A 36-year old Wyandanch man and a 30-year old Amityville man, who were also on the boat, were rescued from the water and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for evaluation.
