Track Work Will Impact Service on Branches Over Weekend of October 18-19

Rockville Centre, NY - October 12, 2014 - MTA Long Island Rail Road announced today that track work planned for the weekend of Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 in the area of Rockville Centre will impact train service on the Babylon, Montauk, Hempstead and Oyster Bay branches as well as service at St. Albans Station.

The work will result in track outages that will mean reduced service, substitute bus service or station and schedule adjustments depending on the branch. LIRR customers are advised to check special branch timetables available at stations and on the website for revised train schedules for each branch and allow for extra travel time.

The October 18-19 track work will result in the following service changes:

Babylon Branch

Westbound:

From approximately 7 PM on Saturday to 12:30 AM on Sunday, customers traveling from stations Babylon to Merrick will travel by train to Freeport and change there for bus service to Jamaica. Buses will stop at Rockville Centre, Baldwin, Lynbrook, and St. Albans and Jamaica where train service resumes to points west. Customers should expect up to one hour of additional travel time. Other trains will operate on adjusted schedules.

Eastbound:

From approximately midnight to 7 PM on Saturday, trains will depart Penn Station 8 to 10 minutes later than normal. Atlantic Terminal passengers will board their normal trains to Jamaica and wait up to 10 minutes for connecting service. From approximately 7 PM on Saturday to 12:30 AM on Sunday, passengers will travel by train to Jamaica and change there for bus service stopping at St. Albans, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre, Baldwin and Freeport. Train service will resume at Freeport for points east. Other trains will operate on adjusted schedules.

Montauk Branch

Eastbound

Customers on the 7:25 PM and 9:57 PM trains from Penn Station will transfer to bus service at Jamaica to Freeport, where train service resumes to Babylon and to Montauk. Change at Babylon for Montauk trains.

Westbound

Customers on the 7:24 PM, 8:23 PM and 9:24 PM trains from Patchogue will change at Babylon for service to Freeport, where they will transfer to bus service to Jamaica. Other trains will operate on adjusted schedules.

Hempstead Branch

Eastbound

From approximately 7AM to 6PM, some eastbound trains will be held at Jamaica for 7 minutes to accommodate customers from connecting trains.

Oyster Bay Branch

Eastbound

Some eastbound Oyster Bay Branch trains will also operate an adjusted scheduled departing 10 minutes later than normal.

St. Albans Station

From 7:30 PM until midnight on Saturday, October 18, buses will replace trains to and from St. Albans Station.

Westbound: Customers at St. Albans traveling to Western Terminals will board buses bound for Jamaica, where they will transfer to trains for points west. Customers from Babylon Branch stations traveling to St. Albans will transfer to a bus at Freeport bound for St. Albans.

Eastbound: Customers from western terminals will board a bus at Jamaica bound for St. Albans. Customers at St. Albans traveling to Babylon Branch stations will board buses at St. Albans for transportation to Freeport, where they will transfer to trains for points east.
