Deer Park Man Shot by Police

Deer Park, NY - October 10th, 2013 - The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating the police-involved shooting of a man who threatened his father and lunged at police in Deer Park this morning.

Edward Bohlsen called police at approximately 10:30 a.m. to report that his son, Eric Bohlsen, was threatening to cut off the senior Bohlsen’s head.  Edward, 79, told responding officers that his son has psychiatric issues and was not taking his medication.  When First Precinct officers arrived, Eric, 40, ran from police and threatened them with a knife during a foot pursuit.

Eric returned to the apartment he shares with his father, located at 9 Parkcenter Dr., and was tased and shot once in the chest after he lunged at police officers.  Eric was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

Eric was arrested on two outstanding warrants and additional charges are pending.

The investigation is continuing.  Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
