Alligator Rescued In Miller Place

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  10. October 2013

Miller Place, NY - October 10, 2013 - A two foot long American Alligator was rescued by the Suffolk County SPCA today from a Miller Place Home. That makes the total number of Alligators turned in or abandoned in a little over a year to 19 in the Long Island area.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that the Alligator was turned in by the owner who missed the amnesty day a few weeks ago. The Amnesty Day was sponsored by the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Fish & Wildlife, and the Suffolk County SPCA. Gross said that the Alligator appeared to be in good health and will be turned over to a Licensed Reptile Facility.

The owner did the right thing by calling us and turning over the Alligator rather than setting it loose somewhere, Gross said.
