Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured an electric scooter operator in Amityville on Saturday, October 4.
Richard Newton was riding an electric scooter eastbound on Louden Avenue when he went through a red light and collided with a 2007 Mazda being driven by Randall Morency southbound on County Line Road at 3:30 p.m.
Newton, 35, of Lindenhurst, was transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries. Morency, 21, of Massapequa, was taken via ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
