History: On the Campaign Trail in Greenport at Turn of the 20th Century

In 1908, when Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler ran for governor of New York, he campaigned on Long Island stopping in Greenport where the below historic photos were taken. According to reports, Chanler served as Lieutenant Governor of New York and ran as the Democratic candidate for Governor seat but lost.
