Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker Attends Pet Adopt-A-Thon

Written by Legislator Anker's Office  |  05. October 2018

Sound Beach, NY - October 5, 2018 - On Saturday, September 22nd,  Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the Sound Beach Civic Association’s annual Pet Adopt-A-Thon. This year’s Adopt-A-Thon was dedicated to and renamed after Sal Mingoia, who lost his battle with cancer in 2017. Mingoia had attended every Adopt-A-Thon since the first in 2012, and offered his musical talents with his daughter, Gina, to provide live entertainment for the event each year. To honor his life as well as his great love for animals, the Sound Beach Civic Association has changed the name of the annual event to the Sal Mingoia Pet Adopt-A-Thon.

“It was a pleasure to join the Mingoia Family and the Sound Beach Civic at the first annual Sal Mingoia Pet Adopt-A-Thon,” said Legislator Anker. “Sal’s musical talent and generous spirit were felt throughout our community, and it was an honor to join his family in celebrating his memory.”

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter, Grateful Greyhounds, Last Chance Animal Rescue, and Save-a-Pet hosted booths where community members could adopt animals, learn about responsible pet care, and find important pet adoption resources.

“This event is one of my favorites -- it's such a feel-good, family-friendly day,” said Sound Beach Civic President Bea Ruberto. “The civic is proud to offer the animal welfare groups a venue to get the word out of the great work that they do. Over a dozen animals were either adopted by the end of the day or adoptions were pending and we were able to raise some funds to help these groups in a small way.”
