Body Recovered and One Man Missing after Boat Found Overturned in the Long Island Sound

Port Jefferson, NY - October 4, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating an incident in which a boat was found overturned and a body was recovered from the Long Island Sound this afternoon. A search is still ongoing for a second person believed to have been on that boat.

At approximately 3:35 p.m. a boater alerted the Coast Guard that there was an overturned boat in the Long Island Sound, just west of the Port Jefferson Channel, Port Jefferson. U.S. Coast Guard officials responded and recovered the body of Charles Petrie, 80, of Holtsville. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers also responded and are assisting the U.S. Coast guard in searching for James Bilello, 73, of Bay Shore, who was believed to be with Petrie.

Marine Bureau officers recovered the boat, a 20 foot Aquasport center console, which was impounded for a safety check.
