SCPD Officers Rescue Puppies from Under Shed
Shirley, NY - October 3, 2014 - Suffolk County Police, in conjunction with the Suffolk County SPCA and Brookhaven Town Animal Control, rescued a litter of newborn puppies from under a shed today.
Seventh Precinct patrol officers responded to a residence on Starlight Drive in Shirley at approximately 11 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that animals were in distress under a shed. An officer discovered a newborn puppy hidden under a pile of leaves and heard other puppies crying from under the floor of a shed.
Officers from the Emergency Services Section responded and used power tools to remove the floorboards in the shed. Emergency Services and Seventh Precinct officers, with assistance from personnel from Suffolk County SPCA and Brookhaven Town Animal Control, removed an adult terrier mix, six additional terrier mix puppies and an adult Yorkshire Terrier from under the shed. The dogs were returned to their owner, who lives at the residence
