Bus Aide Arrested for Assaulting 5 Year Old Handicapped Student

Commack, NY - October 3rd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a bus aide for assaulting a student while riding in a school bus in Commack.

Richard Mason, a bus aide for Acme Bus Corp., was riding in a bus in Commack when he, in an attempt at discipline, grabbed the arm of a 5-year-old developmentally disabled boy and twisted it behind the student’s back, causing a fracture on September 30 at approximately 4 p.m. The students on the bus were from North Ridge Elementary School.

Following an investigation by Special Victims Section detectives, Mason, 39, of 106 Suffolk Ave., Brentwood, was arrested and charged with Assault 3rd Degree and Acting in a Manner to Injure a Child. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
