Wyandanch Man Arrested for Falsely Reporting a Shooting

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  02. October 2013

Wyandanch, NY - October 2nd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police First Precinct patrol officers have arrested a man for falsely reporting a shooting in an attempt to avoid arrest for other violations.

During routine patrol last night, Police Officers William Madden and Edward Angelo observed Chazeray Johnson spitting and smoking while he was near the gas pumps at a gas station located at 1551 Straight Path and that he had an open container of alcohol in his hand. The officers saw Johnson get into the passenger seat of a 2013 Honda Civic and stopped the vehicle when it drove away.

As the officers were writing tickets for the offenses, they received a call about shots fired at another location. At the same time, they noticed that Johnson was on his cell phone. The officers checked the computer for the complainant’s phone number and called it. Johnson’s phone began to ring and the officers realized he made the false report of a shooting to the police. When questioned, Johnson said he thought he could get the officers to respond to the other call instead of writing his summonses.

Johnson, 23, of 47 Lake Drive, Wyandanch was arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident 3rd Degree  and issued numerous other summonses.

Johnson is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
