Mineola, NY - September 30, 2015 - To support veterans transitioning from the military to a life and career back at home, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and North Shore-LIJ Health System President & CEO Michael Dowling today announced a free workshop, entitled “Barracks to Business: Translating Military Skills into Career Success” to prepare veterans to fill more than 1,500 open positions in the health system, which includes 21 hospitals and about 450 ambulatory and physician practices. The workshop will take place on Thursday, October 8th at 9:30 a.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.
“My administration is committed to supporting the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces upon their return home,” said County Executive Mangano. “I am proud to partner with North Shore-LIJ on this free workshop and provide veterans the opportunity to enhance their resumes, interviewing skills and network with other Veterans.”
Barracks to Business is a North Shore-LIJ initiative focused on resume development, interview skills and how to translate the essential and highly sought after military skill sets such as leadership, discipline, and flexibility into a language that is clearly understood by civilian HR recruiting and hiring leaders. The workshop will provide assistance with resume writing, guidance on proven interviewing techniques, and the opportunity to network with the health systems Veteran Programs Specialist and other veterans. Each of the North Shore-LIJ’s 35+ recruiters, have numerous positions to fill and this workshop will aid in preparing veterans to qualify for these opportunities.
