Uniondale, NY - September 30, 2014 - Starting on Friday, October 24 competing teams of design and construction professionals, college students and middle and high school students led by architects and engineers, will showcase their talent and creativity by designing and building giant self-supporting sculptures out of cans of non-perishable food to be donated to Long Island Cares, Inc.-The Harry Chapin Food Bank to feed the more than 316,000 Long Islanders that are effected by hunger and/or food insecurity.
For thousands on Long Island, the day begins and ends with the anguish of hunger. Canstruction Long Island is determined to end this suffering. Teams are given 12 hours to defy expectations, logic and gravity as they build fantastic sculptures from thousands of cans of food. Driven by the knowledge that their structures will change lives by lifting the spirits of those in need, by raising public awareness, and most importantly, by filling the shelves of local food pantries dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to bring their creations to life.From October 24-November 5, the supersized masterpieces will be on display to the public at RXR Plaza in Uniondale. The cost of admisssion, just one can of food. At the end of the Canstruction Exhibition, all cans are donated to Long Island Cares, Inc.

"It brings together an extremely talented group of professionals whose talents are only matched by their concern for people in need. All of the food used in building the structures is distributed to feed the hungry through our network of community-based member agencies just in time for the holiday season when the need for food is at high demand. But the exhibit is also a wonderful destination for families to visit."
Since 2007, the participants of Canstruction Long Island have donated over 275,000 cans of food and thousands of dollars to help feed the hungry on Long Island. For more information visit the website.
