Garden City, NY – October 1, 2013 – Sang Ho Kim, the 63-year-old Queens resident believed to have shot two men near the Roosevelt Field Mall has been found. His body, according to the Nassau County Police Department, was discovered in the Hudson River at approximately 9:30 AM yesterday and later positively identified through fingerprint comparisons.

At 10:11 AM on Wednesday, September 25th, Kim entered the office building of Savenergy in East Garden City, where he shot two men, critically injuring one and killing the other. The surviving victim and owner of Savenergy, John Choi, underwent surgery for his wounds; it is believed that Kim assaulted him over what he perceived to be a bad business deal. Zachariah Yong Jae Shin, age 25 of Whitestone, Queens, was later identified as the victim who lost his life. Shin’s funeral was held on the same day that Kim’s body was discovered.

After sending surrounding areas, including Garden City schools and the Roosevelt Field Mall, into a panic and forcing many of them into lockdown, Sang Ho Kim fled upstate. Investigators followed when local officials discovered his SUV in Putnam County more than 12 hours after the shooting, but were unable to find the man himself until Monday morning.

An extensive search of the Hudson Highlands Park and surrounding waterways covering 7,400 acres concluded with yesterday morning’s discovery. Major Patrick Regan of the local state police said that the body appeared to have been in the water for several days.
