Sadly, one of the largest and most well-known book stores on Long Island is out of business. But book lovers need not despair. There are many other book stores still on Long Island, some of them independently owned and operated. Below we listed some of the
 

Locust Valley Bookstore

Where: Locust Valley

The Locust Valley Bookstore is a locally owned independent bookseller serving the North Shore of Long Island.

 

Burton's Bookstore

Where: Greenport

For the better part of the last 50 years, 43 Front Street has been home to one of Greenport's closely held treasures: Burton's Bookstore. With owner and proprietor, Scott Raulsome, at the helm, Burton's Bookstore has flourished into the quaint and lovely bookstore it is today.

 

Red Jacket Books

Where: Westhampton Beach

Red Jacket Books is an independent bookstore in Westhampton Beach.

 

Friends of the PJ Library Used Book Shop

Where: Port Jefferson

A lot of libraries will sell old books. The Port Jefferson Library has a great space (it used to house an antiquated bookshop called The Good Times Bookshop in the 1970s and 1980s run by a local couple) that sells best-sellers, paperbacks, cookbooks, children’s books and more. Cheap!

 

Barnes & Noble

Where: Various locations

A big box book seller that has survived the onslaught of Amazon. Locations on Long Island include Manhasset, Lake Grove, East Northport, Bay Shore, Massapequa Park, and others.

 

Koster's Books

Where: Farmingville/Online

Koster’s is a used and out-of-print book buyer and seller. They say that they will make house calls all across Long Island to purchase both small and large collections of books and will travel almost anywhere for the right collection.

 

The Dolphin Bookshop

Where: Port Washington

Since 1946 The Dolphin Bookshop has distinguished itself as an independent bookstore for Port Washington, New York, a waterfront community on the North Shore of Long Island. This unique shop is a neighborhood gem which draws people from Manhattan to the east end of Long Island.
