The Correction Officer I exam is currently open to registration and the deadline to register was recently extended to October 6th.  The test date is November 13th.

 

The Suffolk County Correctional Facility is one of the most innovative agencies in the nation, and the recent recipient of numerous awards and accolades for excellence. Careers can take many tracks, including opportunities in intelligence, operations, rehabilitation, and community corrections. Correction Officers work inside the county jails in Riverhead and Yaphank, and in other offices in Central Islip, Brentwood, and Westhampton.

 

Correction Officers with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office enjoy a competitive benefit and compensation plan including, but not limited to, health, vision, and dental insurance, life insurance, holiday pay, tuition reimbursement, New York State Pension, 25-year retirement, 1st year time accruals: 10 vacation Days, 5 personal days, and 13 sick days. 

 

To qualify for the exam:

Standard High School or High School Equivalency Diploma

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must be a resident of Suffolk County

Must be 21 years of age (or 20 years and 6 months by date of written test)

No age restriction

Pass a medical, psychological and background Investigation

Must pass the Cooper Physical Fitness Test
