Congressman Suozzi Reaches Out to Northwell Health Over Potential Closure of Don Monti Cancer Center in Glen Cove

Huntington, NY - Sept. 25, 2018 - Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) has reached out to Northwell Health over concerns about a potential closure of the Don Monti Cancer Center in Glen Cove.

“The Don Monti Center has been a fixture in Glen Cove for decades, providing first-class cancer treatment and support services to residents of Long Island’s North Shore. The oncologists and related specialists at Don Monti are second to none. The closure of this facility would be a challenge for patients and medical professionals who have become accustomed to the location,” said Suozzi.

Suozzi has asked Northwell Health about the plans for the site if this is an irreversible decision. If Northwell goes through with the closure, he would like to see the site used for enhanced veterans’ services in conjunction with the Northport VAMC or possibly a Center for Geriatric Excellence, as Glen Cove is home to three assisted living facilities, three nursing homes, and many geriatric specialists.

“I have asked Northwell Health to reexamine this decision to close the doors at the Don Monti Cancer Center. We need to prioritize what is best for the patients and the community,” said Suozzi.
