SCPD: Fuel Carrier Safety Checkpoint in Brentwood Results in 19 Summonses and 5 Tankers Out of Service

Brentwood, NY - September 25, 2015 - The Suffolk County Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Section, in conjunction with New York State Police, NYS Department of Transportation, NYS Environmental Conservation Police, NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, and Suffolk County Consumer Affairs Bureau of Weights and Measures issued 19 summonses and placed 5 tankers out of service at a fuel carrier safety checkpoint last night into this morning.

The inter-agency enforcement initiative was conducted to ensure compliance with commercial motor vehicle and hazardous material safety regulations and with NYS tax laws, and to address environmental safety issues associated with fuel tanker trucks.  A total of 13 trucks were inspected during the five-hour checkpoint.

  • The Motor Carrier Safety Section, New York State Police and NYS Department of Transportation issued 14 summonses for equipment violations and placed 5 fuel tanker trucks out of service for safety hazards.
  • The New York State Environmental Conservation Police issued 3 summonses for violations of the NYS Environmental Conservation Law.
  • The New York State Department of Taxation cited 3 trucks for violations of the New York State tax laws.
  • Suffolk County Consumer Affairs Bureau of Weights and Measures cited 2 trucks for non-compliance of registration requirements.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
