Take Two: Neighbors Again Help ‘Shed the Meds’
North Babylon, NY - September 23, 2013 - Suffolk County Legislator Lou D’Amaro (DNorth Babylon) and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department gave community members another opportunity to safely hand over their unused or expired medications for proper disposal by hosting a second “Shed the Meds” event at the North Babylon Public Library.
Held in conjunction with Legislator D’Amaro’s Senior Citizen Outreach Program, where he was on hand to provide Senior ID cards to local seniors, a steady stream of residents of all ages participated in the September 12th program. The “Shed the Meds” events are designed to keep unwanted medications out of the hands of potential abusers and away from the groundwater. Two Suffolk County deputy sheriffs accepted the medications during the two-hour event.
Legislator D’Amaro is also helping host a “Shed the Meds” event this Friday, September 27th from 6 pm – 8 pm at Deer Park High School, One Falcon Place in Deer Park. Residents from any neighboring communities can bring their unused and unwanted medications to the school at this time for safe and proper disposal. Any community members who missed the North Babylon event or are unable to attend the Deer Park Program are encouraged to bring them to any Suffolk County police precinct, 24 hours a day for placement in anonymous drop boxes Medications should be removed from their prescriptionbottles and placed in a plastic bag. Local drop-off locations are as follows:
First Precinct, Route 109, West Babylon
Second Precinct, 1071 Park Avenue, Huntington
