North Merrick, NY - September 24th, 2013 - Arson/Bomb Squad detectives report the details of a house fire that occurred in North Merrick on Tuesday, 09/24/13 at 3:12 P.M.
 
According to detectives, roofers were doing work on a residence located at 1715 Sutton Pl. when they noticed the power had gone out.  As they notified the homeowner, who was asleep inside, they realized smoke was coming from the home.  They awoke the female homeowner, 73, who then safely exited the home.  North Merrick Fire Department along with East Meadow, Freeport, Merrick, Bellmore, N. Bellmore, and Roosevelt Fire Departments responded with 75 firefighters and 11 apparatus to extinguish the fire.  The house sustained extensive damage.
 
Nassau County Police Ambulance transported an East Meadow firefighter, who suffered head and neck burns to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
 
Detectives are deeming the fire as non-suspicious. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the investigation is continuing.
