The 24 Annual Maritime Festival took place in Greenport this past weekend, delighting both residents and visitors from across the Island with dozens of vendors, delicious food carts, and a harbor full of tall ships.

Outside the carousel in Mitchell Park was a collection of expertly crafted wooden boats staged for the viewing pleasure of onlookers throughout the weekend. A number of local restaurants set up shop on the road to offer up a sampling of their regular menus, including pulled pork from BBQ Bill’s, shucked oysters from several of the town’s fine seafood establishments, and scrumptious pastries from the Blue Duck Bakery Café.

The village’s own Greenport Harbor Brewing Company was on hand, offering up a taste of its locally crafted brews at several locations across the sprawling festival. Several musicians arrived to entertain the large crowd, children were amused by pirates and mascots, and a parade marched through the streets on Saturday.

If you missed out on the festival this time around there is always next year, and there are still more street fairs to attend in other towns as well.  Of course, there is still plenty to do if you want to visit the North Fork—wine tours are always a great way to spend a day, and it is now the season for apple and pumpkin picking.
