Jericho, NY - September 22, 2016 - Cycling enthusiasts raised more than $22,000 to help find a cure for diabetes on Sunday, Sept. 18 during Ride for the DRI, when a dedicated team of 35 bike riders participated in the Massapequa Park Bicycle Club Tour of the Hamptons. Funds raised support the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) and its mission to find a biological cure for diabetes.

Donning their new DRI bike jerseys, team members traveled through a scenic route of mostly flat terrain and rolling hills on the scenic south fork of Long Island, featuring farmlands, beaches, mansions and historic towns such as East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk before returning to Southampton.

“I am extremely pleased with the efforts of our DRI team of riders.  We raised a large amount of money, and it all goes to help find a cure for diabetes,” said Bruce Siegel, who serves as DRI Foundation Northeast Region Board Co-chairman, along with Marc Goldfarb. “The passion of Keith Adwar and David Newman were instrumental in getting our team together and reaching our goal of raising needed funds and awareness for this great cause.”

Adwar and Newman have been riding together for years and raising money for various causes.  Since both of their lives have been touched by diabetes in different ways, they decided to dedicate their efforts toward raising funds and awareness for the DRI’s singular goal of finding a cure diabetes.

Together with Siegel, they built a solid team of 35 riders, who each committed to creating their own fundraising webpages at RidefortheDRI.org in order to raise support and sponsors from their personal networks.

This newly formed team will continue to Ride for the DRI at upcoming cycling events.  All avid bike riders who want to get involved should contact the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation at 516.822.1700 or email. For more information, visit DiabetesResearch.org.
