The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for an incident that occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 4:00 a.m. in New Cassel.
According to Detectives, third precinct officers responded to the vicinity of 268 Magnolia Avenue for a suspicious person pulling on car door handles. Upon arrival, officers located defendant, Melvin Daniels, 20, of 90 Stewart Avenue, in front of 252 Green Street.
After an investigation he was placed into police custody. Subsequent to the investigation, defendant Daniels was found to be in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson semi-automatic hand gun. While officers were processing the arrest Daniels assaulted another unrelated defendant in the third precinct holding cell.
Defendant Daniels is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
