The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) kicks off in mid-September and Keep Islip Clean is ready to support and supply volunteers in this unique environmental project.

As the name suggests, the ICC is a global initiative designed to collect information on the trash removed during waterway cleanups. It is an initiative of the Ocean Conservancy in Washington, which uses the data to track international marine pollution trends.

An ICC cleanup requires attention to the details of trash found near beaches, streams and wetlands, but it is not a difficult task. Keep Islip Clean will provide instructions for data collection along with all necessary supplies. Cleanup locations go beyond the shoreline beaches that extend from West Islip through Bayport, and can also include waterways at inland areas throughout Islip.
