Albany, NY - September 19, 2016 - New York State agencies are working to incorporate consideration of climate change into everything they do. There are lots of reasons for you to care about climate change, and ways to make a difference in your own life to decrease your greenhouse gas emissions, and to make your home and family safer and healthier.

Did you know climate change also affects your health? In addition to causing heat health emergencies, climate change also exacerbates allergies and asthma. Taking actions that decrease greenhouse gases, especially from our daily transportation sources, fights climate change and cleans up the air, helping allergy and asthma sufferers at the same time.

Try it!

  • Think about the places you go regularly in your private vehicle, and how you might combine trips and create more efficient routes.
  • Find one or two trips you regularly that you can turn into a shared ride or a bus ride.
  • See if you can turn some of your trips into zero-emission trips by walking or biking.

Tips -

  • Use New York’s 511NY tool for traffic, travel, and transit information, and the iPool rideshare service.
  • Get pedestrian and bicycling safety and route info from NYSDOT’s Bicycle Program.
  • Find trail maps at Parks & Trails NY’s Trailfinder.
  • Plan to participate in this year’s Walk/Bike to School Day on October 5.

Take the opportunity during Climate Week 2016 (September 19-25) to make one of these easy changes - then post a photo or video of your action to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using hashtags #CW2016 #WhatWillUDo to help inspire and inform others!
