63-Year-Old Man Found Floating in Water of Jones Beach Inlet After Boating Accident, Dead

Update - September 17, 2016 - Homicide Squad detectives have identified the victim as Daniel Boyle, 63, of Baldwin.

Jones Beach Inlet, NY - September 16, 2016 - The Public Information Office reports the details of an unusual incident which occurred on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 2:15 p.m. in the Jones Beach Inlet.

According to detectives, two good Samaritans while boating in the inlet observed a male, 63, floating in the water by buoy #1 and #2 near the west channel of Jones Beach.  They contacted police and pulled him aboard. 

Nassau County Marine Bureau boat 21, Town of Hempstead Bay Constable and the Coast Guard responded and performed CPR on the male.  He was transported to the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station by boat and transferred to a Nassau County ambulance. He was taken to NUMC where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 4:18 p.m.

Freeport Fire Department divers verified there were no other people trapped under the boat.  At 5:10 p.m. the search for other aided person was called off after it was verified the deceased was alone in the boat.  The boat was towed to the Coast Guard Station by Sea-Tow.  The identification of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
