SCPD Arrest Mount Sinai Student for Making Terroristic Threats

Mount Sinai, NY - September 16, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Mount Sinai teenager for posting a threat of violence on social media directed toward his high school.
 
Officials at Mount Sinai High School notified police after they were alerted by parents and students regarding an anonymous threat posted on a social media application, Yik Yak, that stated there would be a shooting and bombing at the school on September 16.
 
Following an investigation by Sixth Squad detectives, a 15-year-old male student was arrested and charged with Making a Terrorist Threat, a Class D Felony. The teen will appear at Suffolk County Family Court in Central Islip today.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
