New York, NY - September 15, 2017 - Today, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) called for emergency hearings to be conducted through the House committees on Foreign Affairs, Appropriations, Armed Services, and Energy and Commerce to discuss emergency disaster and relief funding throughout the Caribbean in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

“As families and communities from the Caribbean to Florida are still reeling from the damage and devastation following Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Jose and Tropical Depression Katia are knocking at their doorsteps with the promise to create more destruction and possibly even death. As public servants, we have a moral duty and responsibility to do everything within our power to aid in the immense rebuilding efforts and assist with potential public health crises that may follow. I have called for emergency hearings to discuss aid in the wake of Hurricane Irma and efforts to assist those who will be impacted by the storms that will soon follow.”

In a letter sent to the Chairpersons of the House Foreign Affairs, Appropriations, Armed Services, and Energy and Commerce committees, Rep. Espaillat outlined necessary aid and other issues to properly prepare for and address the impact of Irma, Jose, and Katia on the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, including Antigua and Barbuda, Republic of Haiti, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands.
