Shoreham, NY - September 15, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined the Rocky Point Fire Department for the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11th. The ceremony honored those who lost their lives in the tragedies of September 11th, 2001, and included a name reading of local residents who were lost, as well as a candle lighting ceremony. The Rocky Point Fire Department was joined by the Miller Place Fire Department, the Wading River Fire Department and the Ridge Fire Department for the ceremony.

“It is important to never forget the bravery of our servicemen and women and those who lost their lives in the tragedies of September 11th,” said Legislator Anker. “I am humbled to join the community to remember the incident that has made America stronger.”

The memorial, located at the Rocky Point Fire Department on Route 25A in Shoreham, features a reflecting pool and a piece of steel from the original World Trade Center. The memorial committee also will be planting a seedling flowering pear tree taken from the 9/11 “Survivor Tree”, an original tree from the World Trade Center area that survived the 9/11 attacks.
