NYS Police Arrest NYC Transit Bus Driver For DWI on the Northern State Parkway

Nassau County, NY - September 13, 2015 - On 9/13/15 at 2:22 PM, the New York State Police received multiple calls of an erratic NYC transit bus traveling eastbound on the Northern State Parkway in Nassau County.  A Farmingdale trooper stopped the bus just east of exit 32(Post Avenue).  While interviewing the bus operator, Alexander Copeland, age 52, of Medford NY, the trooper detected a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage.  Mr. Copeland failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI.

The defendant produced a positive breath sample of .20% BAC.  Further investigation revealed that Mr. Copeland was on his day off and was not authorized to be driving the bus.  Mr. Copeland was charged with Reckless Endangerment 2nd(Class A Misdemeanor), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle Without Owners Consent(A Misd.), Aggravated DWI(Misd.) and traffic violations.
