"Don't Text and Drive" Event Held in Harborfields
Greenlawn, NY - September 11, 2013 - Students and adults will be invited to experience a virtual reality driving simulator, talk about their experience and take the pledge to never text and drive. Legislator Spencer, County officials, SCPD representatives and school district administration will encourage everyone to spread the word to curb texting and driving. “It Can Wait” is a nationwide effort to teach drivers that no text is worth dying for.
The driving simulator provides a safe environment to experience first-hand, the dangers of texting while driving. The virtual reality video game provides the driver with a “city” to drive through including traffic lights, stop signs, and other motorists. The game sends the driver “simulated text messages” while driving the course and asks the driver to respond to the text message on the cell phone that’s connected to the game.
September 19th is “Don’t Text and Drive Awareness Day” in Suffolk County and nationwide. Hundreds of events are planned, including a tremendous pledge drive being kicked off at this event!
