SCPD Reports Man Busted For DWI After Driving Vehicle Into Canal

Oakdale, NY - Sept. 10, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man early on the morning of Sunday, September 9 for Driving While Intoxicated after he drove his vehicle off a foot bridge into a canal in Oakdale.
 
Christian Ayala-Garcia was operating a 2006 Ford F-150 pick-up truck on Miami Road at approximately 12 a.m. on September 9 when he attempted to drive across a foot bridge over a canal. The vehicle veered off the bridge and into the canal. Ayala-Garcia exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Fifth Precinct officers apprehended Ayala-Garcia at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Idle Hour Boulevard near Connetquot Drive.
 
Ayala-Garcia, 35, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip later that morning.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
