Cops: Drunk Far Rockaway Man Arrested For Stealing Construction Truck, Striking Two

Inwood, NY - Sept. 10, 2018 - The Fourth Squad reports the details of an arrest for Robbery which occurred on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1:35 A.M in Inwood.
 
According to detectives, Yefry Ramirez-Diego, 34, of Far Rockaway did enter a 1997 International truck that was parked at a construction site on Route 878, just north of Burnside Avenue. The truck was parked with the engine running. The defendant drove the truck off the site but was followed by another vehicle with 2 male employees of the construction site. 
 
When the defendant got to Sheridan Blvd and Nassau Avenue, he stopped which enabled the following vehicle to stop their vehicle in front of the truck. Both male employees attempted to remove the defendant from the truck but were unable to do so. The defendant began to drive again towards the 2 males that were now standing in front of the truck. One male jumped out of the way but the other, a 60 year old victim was struck on the arm. 
 
The defendant continued to drive westbound on Sheridan Avenue until he lost control of the truck, colliding with a fence on Sheridan Blvd. He then struck a 42 year old male victim that was walking on the sidewalk on Carvel Place and then collided with a 2015 Nissan Altima which was parked on Carvel Place. The defendant exited the truck and fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after with assistance of NYPD Police Officers. Further investigation revealed the defendant was operating the truck while under the influence of alcohol.
 
The 60 year old victim refused medical attention at scene, the 42 year old victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for hip and abdominal pain.
 
The defendant is charged with Robbery 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 2nd degree. Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree,   Leaving  the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury, Driving While Intoxicated, Assault 3rd degree, Reckless Driving, Unlicensed Operator. He will be arraigned on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
