Motorcyclist Stopped in Median Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash in Yaphank

Yaphank, NY - September 8th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist who was stopped in the median of Sunrise Highway in Yaphank this afternoon.

Jason Delauro had pulled his 2005 Honda motorcycle into the median of Sunrise Highway, just west of Horseblock Road, when a westbound 2012 BMW 535, driven by Gregory Dean, drifted out of the left lane into the median, striking Delauro.

Delauro, 32, of Horseshoe Lane, Levittown, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Dean, 32, of Seaford, refused medical attention.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
