William Floyd Summer Food Service Program Receives Site Excellence Award

Mastic Beach, NY - September 8, 2015 - The William Floyd Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) recently received the “Site Excellence Award” from the New York State Education Department Child Nutrition Program in recognition for outstanding efforts in providing quality meal service. In addition to the certificate, the William Floyd SFSP received a “Site Excellence Award” pin for making the “extra effort to run an excellent program.”

The program, a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has now been in operation for four years at William Floyd. It is entirely self-sustaining and run at no cost to the William Floyd community. It is open throughout July and August to local residents and their guests aged 18 and under.

According to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, SFSPs like the one at William Floyd, “ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.”

This past Summer, the William Floyd SFSP served 11,611 total meals, including 6,371 breakfasts and 5,240 lunches.

A site review report provided by the New York State Education Department lauded the program, stating, “Excellent site, very friendly to families, service area and food very fresh and clean. They are doing a great job.”
